From RSA to PQC: Navigating the Enterprise Transition to Quantum-Resilient Security
Quantum computing is not simply faster computing; it introduces new computational capabilities that can undermine widely deployed software encryption standards such as RSA encryption and Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm. The implications are far-reaching, placing foundational enterprise systems including Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), Public Key Interface (PKI), and block-chain based distributed ledgers at potential risk.
Although new standards like Stateless Hash-Based Digital Signature Algorithm are emerging, real enterprise quantum security readiness remains limited. According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Cybersecurity Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) guidance many U.S. Federal organizations and other critical infrastructure industries are still in early-stages of post-quantum cryptography (PQC) assessment, focused primarily on inventorying cryptographic assets and documenting potential risk exposure. The challenge is not theoretical.
Organizations should not rely solely on vendor assertions of PQC readiness. Configuration-level validation, traffic inspection, and implementation testing are essential to PQC readiness verification. Internal systems also demand scrutiny, as they are often the least visible and the most dependent on outdated protocols. While there is still time before large-scale quantum threats materialize, the risk of harvest-now, decrypt-later attacks is immediate. Adversaries can capture encrypted data today with the expectation of decrypting it once quantum capabilities mature.
This is where Evolver’s approach provides a practical path forward.
EVOLVER SHIELD is engineered for incremental, crypto-agile adoption. Rather than requiring disruptive system overhauls, SHIELD operates as an overlay that enhances encryption across existing networks and applications without downtime, without packet rerouting, or significant ATO impact. Delivered in partnership with Quantum Xchange’s Phio TX®, the software as a service platform can be quickly and cost-effectively delivered on premise, or via the AWS Gov Cloud, is NIST PQC compliant, supports emerging standards such as ML-KEM, and is FIPS 140-3 and FIPS 203 validated.
In practice, SHIELD enables organizations to begin strengthening their cryptographic posture immediately while maintaining operational continuity. Experts are clear that the transition to post-quantum security will be iterative and sustained. Organizations that adopt continuous enterprise risk management and deploy flexible, forward-compatible solutions will be best positioned to navigate that future quantum divide.
