eVigilant, Inc. (eVigilant) announced today that the firm has been awarded a contract from the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to provide expert consulting services in support of the rollout of the enterprise personal identity verification logical access control system.
eVigilant will be providing project management and training services to help ensure that the enterprise initiative pertaining to the rollout of the personal identity verification logical access control system to the Atlas program. Atlas is the principal automation modernization program for improving information sharing across the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). It is a mission-critical effort necessary to meet ICE mission requirements. The ICE Information Technology (IT) Infrastructure (Atlas) Program uses information technology to enhance core business functions and align the ICE Enterprise Architecture with the DHS Enterprise Architecture. The mission of the Atlas Program is to create, sustain, secure, manage, procure, and install a secure, robust, and reliable information technology environment to support the ICE mission. As part of the Atlas Program, the Cyber Security Modernization (CSM) Project’s charter is to improve the security posture of the ICE infrastructure. The ICE CSM Cyber Identity Management (CIM) Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Logical Access Control System (LACS) project will satisfy the Information Technology (IT) portions of Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12).
The PIV LACS project will implement an identity management system that allows ICE employees and contractors to gain access to computer resources using uniquely identifying credentials consisting of their ICE PIV Smart Cards and Personal Identification Number (PIN). PIV LACS will enable this by leveraging the PIV Smart Cards already in use and adding a comprehensive ICE enterprise Logical Access Control System. The system will enhance ICE’s IT security posture by creating a two-factor user-identity verification process consisting of a PIV Smart Card and each user’s unique PIN. It will facilitate data sharing, enterprise access, and simplified infrastructure administration. Successful implementation will also create a foundation for future capabilities such as integration with Single Sign-On (SSO), Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), and digital signatures for email and other documents. The eVigilant team will work hand in hand with DHS stakeholders to ensure that all users understand the benefits of the new system and are trained on supporting and leveraging the new features.
